Praia da Fajã dos Cubres
Velas, Azores
About this beach
Praia da Fajã dos Cubres is on São Jorge island in the Azores, on one of the most famous fajãs in the archipelago — unique coastal platforms created by cliff landslides that form small, flat land extensions found almost nowhere else on Earth. The Cubres fajã is home to a brackish lagoon separated from the sea by a shingle bar, creating a unique ecosystem of fish and birds. São Jorge island is known for its dramatic fajãs, its DOP-certified cheeses and the cliffs rising more than 300 metres that run along the island from east to west. The beach has access via a dirt road, in a completely wild setting with a contemplative beauty unique to the Azores.
