What is Praias de Portugal?

Praias de Portugal is an independent digital guide dedicated to the maritime and river beaches of mainland Portugal and the Islands. Our goal is to be the most complete and reliable reference for anyone wanting to discover, compare and visit Portuguese beaches — whether you are a resident, a domestic tourist or a foreign visitor.

Our mission

We believe that information about Portuguese beaches should be accessible, up-to-date and useful. We compile data on amenities, water quality, accessibility, Blue Flag status, available activities and much more — all in one place, for free. We want to help each person find the ideal beach for them, whether a quiet family beach, a surf beach or a hidden river beach in the interior of the country.

How we verify information

Information published on Praias de Portugal is collected and verified from multiple sources:

• Official data from the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) on bathing water quality
• Official list of Blue Flag beaches from the Foundation for Environmental Education
• Visits and reports from local contributors
• Community contributions, subject to editorial review before publication

A community project

Praias de Portugal is partly built by its community. Anyone can submit a new beach, write a review or share photos. All contributions are reviewed by our editorial team before being published. We believe local knowledge is irreplaceable: a local resident knows of a hidden river beach that no travel guide has ever mentioned.

Data and updates

We regularly update the information for each beach, especially at the start of each bathing season. Water quality and Blue Flag data are renewed annually based on official publications. If you spot any incorrect or outdated information, please let us know.
