About this beach
Monte Verde Beach, on the north coast of São Miguel next to Ribeira Grande, is one of the premier surf beaches in the archipelago, with black volcanic sand and powerful North Atlantic waves. It regularly hosts surf competitions and schools, in a relaxed setting with beach facilities.
