About this beach
Praia Fluvial do Pocinho is situated on the left bank of the Douro river, in the village of Pocinho, in the municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa, Guarda district. Located downstream of the Pocinho Dam, inaugurated in 1983 — the last dam with a lock on Portuguese territory — the beach offers calm freshwater in a setting of schist and vine-covered hillsides of the Alto Douro. Less than 10 kilometres away lie the rock engravings of the Côa Valley Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998, making Pocinho a destination that combines river leisure with world-class archaeological tourism. The riverside wharf accommodates boats and facilitates beach access during the bathing season.
