About this beach
Praia de Faro, on the Ancão peninsula, is the beach of the district capital itself — and unlike the other Ria Formosa island beaches (Culatra, Farol, Armona, Ilha Deserta), it is the only one accessible by road and bus, with no need for a boat. Buses 14 and 16 connect Faro city centre, the airport and the beach; a ferry crossing is also available from the city dock. Set within the Ria Formosa Natural Park, it stretches for several kilometres and rarely gets crowded, even at the height of summer.
