About this beach
Foz d'Égua River Beach lies in the hamlet of Foz d'Égua, in the parish of Piódão, municipality of Arganil, deep in the Serra do Açor mountains in central Portugal's Beiras region. It is a river beach formed where the Piódão and Chãs d'Égua streams meet, framed by traditional schist houses and two old schist footbridges spanning the two streams.
The beach is reached by road to within about 8 km of Piódão village, then via a steep pedestrian trail with schist steps down to the water. It is an unsupervised bathing area with no sand — the streambed is made up of stone blocks smoothed by the current — so care is needed when entering the water, especially with children. A support bar with a terrace and a shaded picnic area are available on site.
