Supertubos Beach
Peniche, Leiria
About this beach
Praia dos Supertubos, in Peniche, is one of the most famous and respected surf spots in the world, home to the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal World Surf League Championship. The name is self-explanatory: the "super tubes" are powerful, hollow, cylindrical waves that form here with unique regularity and quality, making this location a mecca for professional and amateur surfers from across the globe. Supertubos waves, fed by the North Atlantic, can reach heights between 2 and 6 metres during the swell season, with the highest peaks in autumn and winter. The fine golden sand, combined with the power of the waves, creates conditions that challenge even the most experienced surfers. The beach is integrated into the Peniche Local Natural Reserve and is considered one of the world's best left-hand barrels. Peniche itself is a fishing town worth exploring — with its typical fish gastronomy, historic streets, and the imposing Forte de Peniche. The beach holds a Blue Flag and beach support facilities during the bathing season.
