Vicentine Coast

Vicentine Coast

The Vicentine Coast is one of Western Europe's last truly wild coastlines, protected within the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park (PNSACV) since 1995. Stretching approximately 120 kilometres from Odeceixe in the north to Burgau in the south, this coast spans parts of the Alentejo and Algarve, united by a landscape of rare authenticity. Beaches here are vast, open, and battered by Atlantic winds: fine rust-toned sands, towering dunes, dark rocks, and powerful waves that draw surfers and bodyboarders from around the world. The water is cooler than in the Algarve, a reflection of the Atlantic current, but this vigour sustains exuberant nature and exceptional biodiversity — cliffs inhabited by sea swallows, coastal lagoons with flamingos, and unique endemic flora. Iconic beaches such as Odeceixe, Arrifana, Bordeira, Carrapateira, and Sagres exemplify the grandeur of this coastline. Ideal for nature lovers, surfers, photographers, and those seeking peace and authenticity away from the crowds. Best visited between May and October.
