Albandeira Beach
Lagoa, Faro
About this beach
Albandeira Beach, in the municipality of Lagoa, Algarve, Portugal, is one of the Algarve's best-kept secrets: a small golden-sand cove embraced by limestone cliffs, featuring a spectacular natural stone arch that rises from the sea and caves accessible by swimming at low tide. Stretching just 150 metres, it is an intimate and peaceful beach particularly prized for snorkelling in crystal-clear waters, away from the crowds.
Beach characteristics
Albandeira is nestled between two rocky headlands, providing natural shelter from wind and swell. The sand is fine and golden, and water quality is rated Excellent by the Portuguese Environment Agency. Water temperature ranges from 16–17 °C in spring to 21–23 °C in summer. The natural rock arch — visible from the beach and the clifftop walking trail — is one of the most photogenic geological formations in central Algarve. The rocky shallows beside the cliffs harbour abundant marine life, making this an outstanding spot for snorkelling. GPS coordinates: 37.0936° N, 8.3997° W.
Getting there
The beach lies between Armação de Pêra and Carvoeiro, accessible via regional road N269-1. A small free car park sits at the clifftop, from which a 5-minute walking trail descends to the beach. In peak season the car park fills very early — aim to arrive before 9 am.
