Praia de Azenhas do Mar
Sintra, Lisbon
About this beach
Azenhas do Mar is a cliffside village in the Colares parish, Sintra, with whitewashed houses cascading down the cliff to the sea — one of Portugal's most photographed villages. Its small beach is carved into the rock at the base of the cliff and features a seawater-fed natural swimming pool; at high tide only the pool remains visible and the sand disappears, while at low tide a small beach forms. The pool has been internationally recognised (including by Condé Nast Traveler) as one of the world's most beautiful natural pools.
