Loriga River Beach
Seia, Guarda
About this beach
Praia Fluvial de Loriga is located in the village of Loriga, in the heart of the Serra da Estrela mountain range, in the municipality of Seia. Nestled in a glacial valley at around 800 metres altitude, this river beach is bathed by the crystal-clear, icy waters of the Loriga stream, which rises in the highest peaks of the range. Surrounded by lush mountain scenery — granite cliffs, riparian vegetation and mountain pine forests — it is nicknamed the "Portuguese Switzerland" for its alpine beauty. The cold, clean waters, with excellent bathing quality certified by the competent authority, invite swimming and contemplation at one of Portugal's most picturesque river beaches. The historic village of Loriga, with its schist houses and old mills, is itself a destination of cultural and heritage interest. Its proximity to the Serra da Estrela Natural Park makes Loriga a starting point for hiking, cycling and nature watching, including potential sightings of the Iberian wolf.
