About this beach
Praia de Azurara sits at the mouth of the River Ave in Vila do Conde, and is one of the most popular beaches on the northern coast for learning to surf and bodyboard, thanks to its regular Atlantic waves and a long stretch of fine white sand. Access to the beach is via wooden boardwalks that cross the dune cordon, part of the Vila do Conde Coastal Regional Protected Landscape. It has a seasonal lifeguard (mid-June to mid-September), a beach support post with a bar and restaurant, and a car park right by the sand — on the busiest summer days, access traffic is sometimes switched to one-way. A few minutes away is the historic centre of Vila do Conde, with its Monastery and Aqueduct of Santa Clara, and the beach connects directly to neighbouring Praia de Árvore via the coastal boardwalk network.
