Praia de Mindelo
Vila do Conde, Porto
About this beach
Praia de Mindelo, in Vila do Conde, is one of the region's Blue Flag beaches and has water classified as "Excellent" by the Portuguese Environment Agency, also awarded Quercus's Gold Quality Flag. It sits right next to the Mindelo Ornithological Reserve, created in 1957 as Portugal's first classified protected area, home to over 100 bird species. It's a semi-urban beach with rocky outcrops, known among surfers for the hollow, powerful wave that breaks close to the sand — recommended for experienced surfers, since the seabed drops off quickly and children should be supervised. It has a seasonal lifeguard (13 June to 13 September), a beach support post (Bar Bombordo), reserved parking, adapted toilets and showers, and is one of six officially accessible beaches in the municipality of Vila do Conde. Access by public transport is easy, with the Mindelo station on Porto Metro's Line B nearby.
